Coronavirus: Srikakulam records first death

Srikakulam: The first death of a person who tested positive for coronavirus was recorded in Srikakulam district on Wednesday. The death occurred at Mandasa mandal centre.

According to sources, a 46-year-old person died of Covid-19.He hailed from Mandasa mandal centre. He had a hotel. The deceased had no travel history, but attended a function at the house of her relatives in a containment zone here.

Officials suspected that the the person was infected at containment zone.

Covid-19 is spreading in the district. A total of 10 positive cases had been reported so far in Srikakulam alone. Cases were reported from 16 mandals across the district. Covid-19

positive cases were reported so far from Rajam, Narasannapeta, Jalumuru, Saravakota, Sompeta, Amudalavalasa, Polaki, Kotabommali, Tekkali, Palakonda, Gara, Meliaputti, Ranastalam, Santhakaviti, Mandasa and Bhamini mandals. A total of 384 virus cases were reported in the district.

District ollector J Nivas directed the officials at mandal level to enforce home quarantine rules strictly. He expressed ire at the officials for allowing persons in home quarantine to move out and thus posting a threat to people. A criminal case has been registered against a person for violation of home quarantine rules in Saravakota mandal.

Meanwhile, the District Collector visited Mandasa mandal centre in the wake of first Covid-19 death and appealed to the people to follow rules.
