Coronavirus tally reaches 216 in Srikakulam district

Srikakulam: The number of Covid-19 positive cases in Srikakulam district till Tuesday reached 216, according to District Surveillance Officer (DSO) for Covid-19 cases, Dr Bagadi Jagnnadha Rao. Of total cases, as many as 208, who tested positive for virus are those who returned to the district from various places.

As per Medical and Health Department officials, of 208 cases, as many 132 persons have returned from Chennai, 26 from Hyderabad, 50 from various places. A total of 32,700 persons returned to Srikakulam district. Of the total returnees, as many as 12,700 came from various States, and 20,000 from various districts within the State.

Medical and Health Department officials expressed the fear that the tally may cross 500 in the coming three months. They appealed to the people to follow precautionary measures even though the government relaxed lockdown restrictions. They suggested that the safety protocols be followed to contain the spread of infections.

The Health Department is collecting 800 a day for testing. A total of 60,788 samples have been sent for tests till Tuesday and results received are 51,530. Results of 9,258 samples are awaited, said the District DSO.
