Covid-19 cases rise to 111 in Chittoor district
Tirupati: Chennai's Koyambedu market links continue to cause worry in neighbouring Chittoor district. The district Covid-19 cases tally has surged to 111 from 82 in three days.
Out of the 29 new cases, 26 have Koyambedu market contacts. As several traders go to that market to buy commodities and sell in their places, the cases have spread to new mandals in the district which were hitherto not affected by the novel coronavirus. Similarly, drivers and loaders also go regularly to Koyambedu market.
After 73 Covid survivors got discharged from hospitals, the district has 38 active positive cases now. Srikalahasti tops the list with 48 as per official records out of which 41 were discharged.
With the new cases, V Kota, Satyavedu, Nagalapuram, Mulakalacheruvu and Vijayapuram mandals have also joined affected areas.
It is learnt that so far about 450 persons were traced having travel history with Koyambedu or their primary contacts and most of their samples have been tested already and found 26 positives. About 200 more persons have to be traced and tested.
