CPM leaders burning effigy of Union government in protest against the budget in Eluru

Eluru: Terming Union Budget as pro-rich and anti-poor, the CPM burnt the effigy of the Union government here on Saturday. The party leaders alleged that injustice was meted out injustice to the state again. While the budget was pouring sops on rich, it was burdening the poor further.

The Union government was giving Rs 5 lakh crore concessions to corporate and elite sections in the country and increasing prices of petroleum products which in turn became burden for the poor. The centre ignored the promises made in the state bifurcation act, special category status besides non-allocation of funds for Polavaram project and backward districts.

The leaders criticised that the labour laws have been converted convenient for the managements giving a raw deal to the working class. The budget also failed to address agriculture sector problems.

Meanwhile in Dwaraka Tirumala, farmers under the auspices of AP Rythu Sangham took out a rally protesting the budget. The sangham state president, Y Kesavarao alleged that there was no allocation for Polavaram project and no sufficient funds were allocated to farming sector. The protesters raised slogans against the Union government.
