Demand for commerce course in Sri Venkateswara University
Tirupati: Commerce graduates are showing interest to pursue Master of Commerce (M Com) from Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) and its affiliate colleges for the last two years because of growing employment opportunities.
As many as 9,600 students have appeared for SVUCET-2019 conducted by university in various subjects. In which, 1,800 for M Com (commerce and computers), 1,600 for MSc (computer science) and 1,500 for MSc (chemistry). There are only 200 seats available for M Com course in SVU and private PG colleges in Madanapalle, Chittoor and Tirupati.
Students are opting M Com course as several companies were established in and around Tirupati and in Sri City (Satyavedu) in Chittoor district. These industrial companies need employees with accountancy and computer knowledge background.
After enforcement of the GST, there is huge demand for qualified accountants and Income Tax practitioners. This is also one of the main reasons for students want to pursue M Com course.
Speaking to The Hans India, Joint Director (Directorate of Admissions) Prof Deva Prasad said that availability of jobs has increased for students M Com students. Some departments have received only two-digit number of applications, Prof Prasad stated.
