Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava highlights adverse impact of single-use plastic in Visakhapatnam

DRM Chetan Kumar Shrivastava launching signature campaign to discourage single-use plastic on the railway premises in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Visakhapatnam: Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chetan Kumar Shrivastava called upon all stakeholders and rail users to work together in order to effectively help implement ban on single-use plastic material on railway premises, including trains here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the DRM highlighted the adverse impact of plastic on the environment and urged citizens to stop using 'single-use plastic' like polythene bags, and plastic cups at railway stations, railway offices and establishments across the Division. "The ban is expected to reduce India's annual consumption of plastic - an estimated 14 million tonnes - by about five per cent. Indian Railways plays a vital role in successful implementation of such noble cause and Waltair Division stands first in shouldering such social responsibility. We are committed to make our division green division in future" said the DRM.

A large number of employees of the Waltair Railway Division including, ADRM Akshay Saxena, ADRM(Operations) P Ramachandra Rao, along with members of East Coast Railway Women's Welfare Organisation, led by Shalini Shrivastava, station employees, senior citizens, students, passengers, vendors, licence porters, safai-karmacharis, took pledge not to use plastic or polythene covers inside the station premises.
