Polavaram/ Avanigadda/ Vemuru: Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday called upon the people of the state not to fall prey to the "stunts" of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Addressing public meetings at Polavaram, Avanigadda and Vemuru in Guntur district, Jagan asked people to vote for the YSRCP election symbol – Fan, which like 'Sudershan Chakra' set out to destroy all evil and usher in Rajanna Rajyam.

He alleged that the TDP government had ditched all sections during its five-year rule and was now seeking votes promising the moon. He said the government had failed to implement the loan waiver scheme but was making tall claims that it had cleared the dues. He also promised better governance if TDP is voted out of power.

Addressing a public meeting at Koyagudem near Polavaram, Jaganmohan Reddy said the Polavaram project would be completed and displaced families would get adequate compensation for giving their lands to the government. Jagan announced that the farmers who lost their lands would be given compensation as per the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.

He announced Rs 5 lakh would be allotted for every acre of land and displaced families would get Rs10 lakh compensation for every acre. He said the farmers are not happy with Rs 6.5 lakh compensation being paid under the RR package. He lamented the Polavaram project works continue at snail's pace and alleged that the government is increasing the estimations of the works and there was a rampant corruption in construction of the project.

Referring to women self-help groups, he alleged the TDP government had betrayed the self-help groups and did not release grants to waive the loans. He said the YSRCP government would allot Rs 25,000 crore to clear the loans to the banks if the party was voted to power. He further said that his government would give financial assistance of Rs 12,500 to each farmer every year for cultivation of crops.

He criticised the chief minister for not fulfilling the promise of construction of Machilipatnam port, textile park and development of IT industry in the district. He said that he met a cross section of people during the padayatra and had a feel of their problems.

He announced that he would constitute price stabilisation fund with Rs 4,000 crore to assist the farmers in case of natural calamities like drought, cyclones and floods. He further said Rs 7 lakh insurance will be provided to farmers. Jagan said Chandrababu Naidu would show a new cinema every day to the people for the next 20 days and warned not to fall into the trap of Naidu. Instead defeat the TDP to end its misrule, he said.
