DSP manhandled party candidate, alleges BJP

Nellore: The local BJP leaders demanded that the EC should transfer Kavali DSP Prasad as he has been harassing their party candidates. They alleged that when Padma, wife of Udayagiri Assembly candidate Bharat Kumar, was coming to Kavali on Thursday night police harassed her mentioning code guidelines at Budamgunta, near Kavali. When questioned, Bharat was shifted to police station and they reportedly manhandled him.

BJP State council member M Ramesh said that police officials at Kavali were supporting the ruling party and obstructing poll related activities of other parties. He said Padma finished her poll campaign and was back to Kavali on a car. Police personnel at the check post stopped her car and obstructed for more than hour.

Bharat Kumar, who came to know about the incident from his wife, rushed to the spot and questioned the police why they had detained his wife in the name of election code. They, Ramesh said, shifted him to local police station where they manhandled ruthlessly even though he was a candidate of a national party.

DSP Prasad also misbehaved with Bharat Kumar, the BJP leaders alleged and demanded that the EC should remove him from election duties. Police resorted to lathi charge when party activists reached the police station for questioning them as to why police manhandled a candidate and harassed his wife.

He said they had brought the issue to the party high command for necessary action against the police official, who has been acting as agent of the ruling TDP. Further, DSP Prasad denied allegations levelled by BJP leaders against him.
