Eluru: The state government has ordered a comprehensive probe into encroachment of government lands worth Rs 100 crore during the last five years in Eluru. Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani disclosed this at a meeting with town planning officials of Eluru Municipal Corporation here on Saturday.

Nani said that government lands adjacent to main roads were encroached and complexes were constructed by influential leaders and former TDP corporators during their tenure. He wondered why the officials failed to issue notices to such encroachments when he asked them to do so repeatedly.

He alleged that the town planning officials, who usually demolish encroachments like hut of the poor, could have shown the same courage in razing the structures built in government lands by the influential persons. He asked Commissioner Chandrasekhar to visit the places where the government lands were encroached and carry out demolitions of structures built in those lands.

Nani directed the town planning officials to demolish the complexes built by former TDP corporators in government lands. They need not spare even if they come across YSRCP leaders as one of their leader also encroached government land, Nani clarified.

He said that he would discuss the issue with Municipal Administration Minister B Satyanarayana and ensure that the vigilance officials probe on the silence of town planning officers with respect to encroached government lands. If necessary, he would surrender their services to government to take further action, he warned.
