Kadapa: Deputy Chief Minister Amzath Basha SB has released water from Adinimmayapalle Anicut to Kurnool-Cuddapah canal (KC) for agriculture operations in the current kharif season. The release of water will be continued in various stages till the end of kharif season in the district.

Farmers are growing crops in around 2.25 lakh acres under KC canal in kharif and out of it paddy is grown in 1.25 lakh acres in the mandals like Duvvuru, Chapadu, Khajipet, Mydukuru, Kamalapuram in Mydukuru and Kamalapuram Assembly constituencies.

This time farmers who have planned to grow paddy in a big way were disappointed due to poor rain fall recorded in June, and July months. Farmers are happy as Krishna water is available in Srisailam reservoir.

According to the sources presently government is proposed to release 10,000 cusecs of water from Srisailam Reservoir to KC canal every day. If the same flood situation continued for some more days, there will be a possibility of releasing water to Subsidy Reservoir-1, Subsidy Reservoir-2, of Brahmam Sagar, through Velugodu reservoir, and also Right and Left canals of Gandikota Lift Irrigation Scheme.

"We are disappointed lot as there was no sufficient rain fall recorded in the current kharif season. But unexpected rains occurring in other places in the state benefit us,'' said R. Rama Krishna Reddy of Duvvuru mandal.

Joint Director of Agriculture J Murali Krishna said agriculture operations are being conducted in 2.25 lakh acres against total 3.5lakh hectors' crop area during kharif under KC canal in the district. Paddy is grown around 1.25 lakh acres in Mydukuru, Kamalapuram and Kadapa constituencies in the district.
