Eluru: Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Alla Nani warned the officials concern of stringent action if incidents of body damage in the mortuary of government hospital take place again.

He grilled the officials-- Assistant Executive Engineer Someshwararao and Biomedical Technician Kutumba Rao-- over their negligence that led to eyes of a body damaged by rats when the former came to his camp office to give their explanation on Monday.

Nani questioned them as to how they would feel if the body belonged to one of their family members. He pulled them up for the lapses.

What measures did they take when three out of four freezers in the mortuary were not functioning, the Minister asked. Failure of scanning and other modern equipment in the hospital would not be tolerated by the government, he warned.

Though many facilities have been provided for the welfare of the patients, small negligence on the part of the concerned staff is bringing a bad name to the entire department, he expressed his displeasure over the incident. The incident should be final of its kind and if such things happen again, there would be no security to even jobs of the concerned officials, he thundered.

Nani phoned to Commissioner of Medical and Health Department and wondered why they had been availing services of Assistant Executive Engineer on deputation at Vijayawada when there was nobody here in Eluru to discharge his duties. He asked the commissioner to immediately cancel his deputation and give instructions to him to discharge duties in Eluru.

Stating that the government was forced to give an explanation because of negligence of field level staff, the Minister said that they would not spare even contract organizations concerned if patients are subjected to trouble.
