Eluru: The CPM has said foiling the attempt of BJP-led NDA government at Centre to divide people on communal lines is a fitting tribute to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukhdev.

The party observed 89th death anniversary of the freedom-fighters here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the party district secretary Ch Baburao alleged that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National People's Register (NPR) were aimed at creating rift among Indian citizens.

The three patriots of freedom struggle had roared against the divide and rule policy of the British and worked to free India from the clutches of the British Raj. The three heroes of the Indian freedom movement had urged people to be united in getting rid of the British. Now, the BJP government at the Centre was trying to create rift between people's of different religions by bringing acts like CAA which were against the very spirit of the Constitution, he said. He demanded that the Centre stop NPR survey commencing from April this year.

The party city secretary, P Kishore presided over the meeting. The party district leaders, A Ravi, B Somaiah, K Srinivas, J Harishadurga and others also spoke.
