Eluru: Team of officials to check road accidents
Eluru: West Godavari District Collector R Muthyala Raju has directed the officials to form a team of the concerned departments to prevent accidents on highways.
Addressing a Road Safety Committee meeting held here on Wednesday, he asked the officials to submit detailed reports on accidents relating to 538 injured persons on highways. He instructed the officials to provide details such as the mode of transportation used to shift the injured to hospitals, how many injured rushed to hospitals each vehicle wise, the duration for taking them to hospitals, what time the rescue teams rushed to accident spot and the kind of treatment extended to the injured.
The District Collector directed the officials of transport, police, national highways, electricity, Roads & Buildings, panchayat raj, medical and health departments to form a team and take preventive measures against accidents. Stating that a majority of road accidents are taking place on national highways, the District Collector ordered the officials to take up construction of bypass roads, arranging speed brakers, set up sign boards.
He said that coordinated efforts of these departments were needed to contain road accidents, which are proving to be fatal in several cases. He informed the officials that so far, 160 accident-prone spots were identified on all highways and main roads in the district. The officials need to take up preventive steps at these spots, he ordered.
The District Collector sought a detailed report from officials on the preventive measures taken at various accident-prone areas so far. DTC M Purendar, SDPO Dilip Kumar, national highways PD A Srinivas, DMHO Subrahmanyeswari and other officials were present.
