Energy Conservation Week celebrations kick-start
Vijayawada: Like every year, the Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway observed Energy Conservation Week emphasising its commitment to reducing energy consumption and promoting eco-friendly practices. This year too, it is observing the National Energy Conservation Week from December 14 to 21 across the Division.
Divisional Railway Manager Narendra A Patil said that the National Energy Conservation Week serves as a platform to showcase the railways’ innovative initiatives, technological advancements, and the collective effort toward a greener and more sustainable future. With an extensive network covering vast geographical areas, the railways have recognised the need to address the environmental impact of their operations. The observance of Energy Conservation Week is a testament to their dedication to responsible and sustainable practices, he said.
Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Maintenance) T Suresh Babu said that Energy Conservation Week serves as a platform to raise awareness among railway staff, passengers, and the general public about the significance of energy conservation through various communication channels, including posters, seminars, and social media campaigns.
“We aim to educate stakeholders about environmental challenges and the role each individual can play in mitigating them. The week-long observance allows us to showcase its Railway’s innovative practices in energy conservation; these include advancements in technology, energy-efficient infrastructure, and the implementation of sustainable solutions across various aspects of railway operations,” he said. Vijayawada Division has been at the forefront of promoting and embracing green technologies, which is a top priority for Indian Railways. The Division has taken steps toward the adoption of renewable energy sources, energy-efficient locomotives, and modern technologies that contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of railway operations.
Energy Conservation Week will also involve engaging railway employees through workshops, training sessions, and interactive programmes. The goal is to instil a sense of responsibility and consciousness regarding energy usage among the workforce, encouraging them to adopt energy-saving practices in their daily operations.
