English medium improves communication skills: Deputy Speaker Kona Raghupathi

Update: 2019-11-14 01:05 IST

Nellore: Deputy Speaker Kona Raghupathi has said that the government to move to introduce the English medium for primary classes as a 'sensible' decision and help the students to compete at the national level examinations on par with other urban and corporate students.

Addressing media during his short stay in the city on Wednesday, he said there has been tough race and students were forced to compete with many students at the national level examinations.

So, parents have naturally been preferring the English medium and joining them in private schools, he pointed out. Consequently, he said, the admissions in Government schools have significantly been reducing and the fresh move would encourage parents to show interest in the state-run schools.

"Introducing English medium doesn't mean the Government is not showing interest in the mother tongue. There would be equal priority for both languages and English would be taught for improving their communication skills keeping their needs in the future. China was earlier showing interest on their mother tongue and now they have also switched over to English medium," explained Raghupathi.

Now, he said many students were failing to compete at the national level because of lacking skills in Hindi and English. He said some people were creating unnecessary criticism on the decision of the government and people have to understand the basic concept of providing communication skills to the students.

The Deputy Speaker said the percentage of people who relied on agriculture was 65 and it increased to 75 after bifurcation of the state. He said this was a warning for the state where we have to focus on relieving the strain on the sector and the fresh move would improve the skills of poor who can cope up even during tough environments.

He said the State government will recruit English teachers exclusively for taking the program forward and appreciated the efforts of the Chief Minister and Education Minister for their keen interest in the education sector. RDO SK Hussain Saheb and Tahsildar Nirmalananda Baba welcomed him. Local members of Brahmin Associations met him and handed over representation on their problems.
