Ensure adequate supply of sand for government works: AP Minister Anil Kumar

Nellore: Minister for Water Resources Dr P Anil Kumar directed the officials to ensure adequate supply of sand for execution of government works.

Addressing a district-level review meeting here on Saturday, he questioned the district officials on the reasons for the scarcity of sand for government works. Minister for IT and Industries M Goutham Reddy also participated in the meeting.

Minister Anil said the lack of supply of sand for government works was due to seizure of the vehicles without understanding the significance for completion of works being taken up by the government wings. He asked them to verify such things and allow sand supply.

He also said that the 6 gravel reaches in the district are not sufficient for the needs and asked the officials to take necessary steps to complete the development works taken up at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore and stalled due to shortage of sand

Further, Ministers Anil Kumar Yadav and Goutham Reddy instructed the officials to prepare the action plan to supply drinking water to the upland mandals in the district for meeting the demand during summer. They reviewed basically on mining, housing, and drinking water.

Anil Kumar Yadav suggested to the officials for utilising the funds under CSR for providing drinking water and pointed out that the people of upland mandals would face severe difficulties for getting drinking water normally during summer.

Minister for IT, Industries and Skill Development Goutham Reddy said that the officials have to focus on completion of National Highways projects and also government high-level projects in the district. Collector MV Seshagiri Babu said that they were going to start 5 sand reaches in the district to meet the demand and also said that they had arranged two mobile check posts at Tada.

He explained that 11 mobile check-posts and mobile squads have been working in the district to curb the illegal transportation of sand.

He informed the Ministers that officials have been supplying water to 400 habitations in the district at a cost of Rs 11.92 crore and they had prepared an action plan to supply drinking water to other areas at a cost of Rs 12 crore and the proposals have been sent to the government.

Joint Collector Dr V Vinod Kumar, MLAs Vara Prasad Rao, K Sridhar Reddy, K Sanjeevaiah, R Pratap Kumar Reddy and senior officials were present.
