Even women in CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's constituency are not safe: Nara Lokesh
Amaravati: TDP national general secretary and former minister Nara Lokesh on Wednesday deplored that there was no protection to women in Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy's own Assembly segment of Pulivendula in Kadapa district.
Lokesh said that a Dalit woman was attacked and molested at Peddakudala village in the Chief Minister's own constituency. Instead of taking stringent and deterrent action, the government is trying to cover up the incident by suppressing the details.
In a statement here, Lokesh accused the Jagan regime of shielding the culprits at a time when the atrocities against women and girls are on the rise across the State. The government is unmoved and not taking action to prevent recurrence of attacks on Dalit women.
He demanded a thorough probe into the incident at Peddakudala village. Exemplary punishment should be given to the persons guilty of the attack.
A Dalit woman was gangraped in Rajahmundry but the ruling YSRCP threw all their weight behind the very persons responsible for the incident.
In Chittoor, Dalit doctor Dr Anitha Rani was humiliated and harassed just for questioning the ruling party leaders' illegal activities there. In Visakhapatnam, another Dalit doctor Dr Sudhakar was arrested, humiliated in public, handcuffed in the middle of the road and sent to mental hospital. He was persecuted just for asking for face masks and PPE kits for the safety of the frontline Covid warriors.
The TDP has also waged a struggle on behalf of the weaker sections persons who were tonsured for questioning the illegalities of the ruling YSRCP leaders. The TDP leader said that Dalit judge Justice Ramakrishna, former MP Harsha Kumar and scores of others were persecuted under Jagan Reddy's anti-people rule.
