Visakhapatnam: As part of the national and international Rebellion Week activities organised by Extinction Rebellion, the local chapter of XR Vizag carried out a silent awareness march at RK Beach on Sunday.

Wearing lacing masks over their faces and carrying flags, banners and posters that read 'If not now then when?', 'Don't keep calm make change' and 'Stop denying our earth is dying', the march saw participation from school and college students, kids and volunteers from different walks of life.

The participants walked across the Beach Road, urging public to consider concrete measures to cut emissions and work towards natural climate solutions. After taking out a funeral march last week, the XR team called for collective efforts to tackle climate crisis and demanded immediate action from the policymakers and stakeholders.

Addressing the participants, environmental activist and XR member Sohan Hatangadi briefed the effects of climate change in the city. "We have been discussing climate change and its impact for a long time. The need of the hour is to take immediate action and combat climate change," he said.

Some members also spoke about the need to provide a better future for the next generation following eco-friendly ways to bring down carbon emissions.
