Fervour marks Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: Stretching, bending and taking deep breaths, many came forward to do asanas, pranayama and mediation to mark the fifth International Yoga Day celebrated in the city on Friday.
Playgrounds, indoor stadiums, beach shores and in-house halls of various organisations turned into a ground for people of all walks of life to demonstrate the ancient practice on the occasion.
At Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium, VUDA Vice-Chairman P Basant Kumar, MLC Madhav and MLA Setti Phalguna participated in the presentation of yoga asanas organised by the district administration.
A large number of railway employees took part in the event organised by Waltair Division, East Coast Railway at Indoor Sports Enclave. Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, ADRM (Infra) Akshay Saxena, ADRM (Operations) P Ramachandra Rao, among others took part in the yoga session.
Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) organised a session at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium. VPT Deputy Chairman P L Harnadh took part as chief guest of the event. Art of Living trainers gave a demonstration of asanas at the stadium, guiding the employees of the VPT to follow suit. A number of employees took part in the programme that lasted for over an hour.
Surya Namaskarams and other Yoga postures were presented by the staff of State Bank of India, Administrative campus on the occasion. Module DGM Y Sathyanarayana Prasad briefed on the ancient practice and how it transformed several lives. Staff from different branches, all the regional managers, assistant general managers have participated.
Several schools and organisations in the city also teamed up to celebrate the day by organising mass demonstration of yoga.
