Former MLA and Congress leader Sundara Rami Reddy passes away
Dr Bommireddy Sundara Rami Reddy (85), a three-time MLA from Atmakur, passed away Thursday morning. Sundararami Reddy, a long-time physician in Atmakur who provided free medical care to many poor people who come for treatment at his hospital. It is no exaggeration that those services have made him a politically undisputed leader. Born on October 17, 1935, in Battepadu, Mandal, he completed his MBBS in Chennai and worked for some years as a Government Physician in Atmakur and Ananthasagaram. In 1970, he opened his own clinic in Atmakur.
In 1978, he was elected as an MLA from Congress party defeating JC Kondaiah of the Janata Party. In 1985, he defeated BJP candidate Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. Then again in the December 1989 elections, Sundara Rami Reddy defeated BJP candidate Anjaneya Reddy.
In recognition of Sundara Rami Reddy, the then Congress government appointed him as Chairman of the State Economic Development Corporation (SFC) in 1991. He is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter. His brother (Ramakrishna Reddy) is also a doctor. Two of the sons were serving as doctors, another son Bommi Reddy Raghavendra Reddy was once the MLC and Zilla Parishad chairman.
The funeral of Dr B. Sundararami Reddy will be held at Atmakur on Friday at 3 pm, said his sons Dr B. Rabindranath Reddy, Dr B. Rajendranath Reddy and B. Raghavendra Reddy.
