Free legal aid camp held for mentally disabled: Judge Aruna

Anantapur: District Legal Services Authority organised a free legal aid camp for the mentally disabled citizens at the RDT Judo Stadium here on Saturday, District Judge Aruna lighted the lamp to mark the inauguration of the camp.

Addressing the participants, she said that the free legal aid camp was held as per the directions of both the National Legal Services Authority and the state body to render justice to the mentally disabled. The Central and State governments implement several schemes for the welfare of the poor, but many were not aware of it due to lack of education. The people should be educated on the legal rights and legal remedies, she said.

Although the national body has suggested 11 different categories on which the camps can be held, two subjects were identified, one is the services for the mentally disabled and the other poverty alleviation. The District Judge advised the participants to specify their problems and also give their details including address and telephone numbers so that follow-up could be done after the camp.

District Collector S Sathyanarayana said that people should bring their problems to the notice of officials and the latter have to work to solve them. He said that the Legal services Authority has been striving to create awareness among the people on their rights.

In many industrial and irrigation projects people who gave their lands were not getting compensation amountss. This is where the Legal Services Authority can step in and render justice to them, he said.

SP Sathya Yesu Babu advised the people to visit stalls and know remedies for their problems. Joint Collector Dilly Rao and Bar Association president Guru Prasad also spoke. Stalls were set up by government departments.
