Garuda Varadhi flyover works in trouble due to funds crunch

- As of now MCT is spending Rs 200 crores funds from Smart City grants phase -1 works were over

- Similarly project completion period was over and MCT extended the six months period to complete the flyover project.

Tirupati: The prestigious Garuda Varadhi flyover construction in Tirupati city is now in trouble due to funds crunch. This project was started in 2018 February 17. MCT authorities had fixed two years time-bound to flyover construction AFCON company. Following the contract agreement, AFCON had started flyover construction and completed phase -1 pillars construction. Three months ago as part of second phase work, AFCON started the concrete bridge segments attachment work from Municipal park to Leelamahal circle.

The actual total stretch of flyover construction is from Tanapalli National Highway to Kapilatheertham Nandi Circle. The total cost of the project was Rs 684 crores. As per the State Government orders, TTD should bear 67% of funds it's around Rs 454 crores, remaining share of funds MCT and State Government will bear jointly.

While after covid-19 pandemic lockdown TTD had lost huge hundi income and other donations from devotees due to implementation of restrictions on devotees' arrival to Tirumala.

In view of that this financial year TTD confining funds saving and spending funds for only Hindu Dharma Pracharam and bearing salaries. Following this situation, TTD board deeply discussed this issue and finally, its Chairman YV SubbaReddy has declared that TTD can release funds Rs 50 crores for Garudavaradhi works in 2021 financial year.

Before that fund scarcity was chasing the officials to complete projects in time. Already two years time-bound will complete within two months. In the circumstance, MCT authorities have extended a six months period to complete Garuda flyover work.

Though the media had published news stories on delaying the release of funds from TTD there was no response. So far MCT has spent Rs 200 crores from its smart city funds for flyover phase -1 works.
