Government going all out to promote sports: MP

Vizianagaram: MP B Chandrasekhar on Thursday called upon all sections of people to participate actively in the sports and games as they would boost the self-confidence besides improving mental health and fitness.

Participating in 'Fit India' programme along with Joint Collector MV Ramana Reddy and others, he said the sports and games would make us fit and healthy and added the youth and students should spend some time on games to have good health.

Later he inaugurated Sports Day celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government was encouraging the sports and games in the district and making all efforts to provide sports infrastructure in the all district headquarters and rural areas.

He recalled that Vizianagaram was well-known for international level sports personalities like Kodi Ramakrishna, Matsa Santhoshi and others. "We should encourage the games and sports from school-level and provide every facility to sports persons to compete in international level events.

Our government is spending around Rs 2 crore on every Assembly constituency to construct stadiums," he said. MLA K Veerabhadra Swamy said that he would help all sports persons from district to reach higher positions. Joint Collector M V Ramana Reddy said that the government would present cash awards and rewards to the sports persons, who got medals in various national and international competitions.
