Government keen on sports development: Ongole Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara

Ongole: District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara announced that the administration was making all necessary arrangements for the development of sports and games in the district.

He inaugurated the district-level High School Boys and Girls Sports and Games meet at Mini Stadium in Ongole on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the government has taken action to make the students in the high schools as the best sportspersons. He said that sports give necessary exercise to the bodies and advised the students to participates in sports and games compulsorily.

He announced that a sports calendar is prepared to encourage the players in the district. He said that to encourage the rural sportspersons and players, they are conducting district level sports meet.

He said that the district shuttle badminton tournament is scheduled for March 13,14 and 15 at the Mini Stadium. He announced that they were about to sanction Rs 7 lakh for central lighting system in the mini stadium and Rs 60 lakh for the development of PVR High School grounds and construct a swimming pool so that they would be available for all types of sports and games tournaments by next academic year.

Bhaskara announced that the State government was constructing a sports stadium in 18 acres with Rs 30 crores expenditure in Pernamitta and also, establish a sports school where students could excel in their favourite games along with studies.

He said that the players who showed merit in the district level tournament would be sent to state-level tournament later. The DEO V S Subba Rao, STEP CEO PV Narayana, DSDO Srinivas, PETs from the high schools in the district also participated in the program.
