Government Of AP Regulated Onion Prices: To Sell Them Based On Aadhaar Cards
Vizainagaram: The state government has taken a strategic step to curb onion prices that have tripled in just a matter of months. Arrangements are being made to make the onions publicly available. From today, farmers have begun selling onions in Raithu Bazaar through special counters. Onion prices have jumped all at once. Last month, onion farmers used to pay Rs. 16 to Rs. 20 per kg. At present, the onion price have rised to Rs.48 a kilo. 70 Tonnes of Onion is expected to be consumed in the district. Most of the inhabitants bring the onions from Nasik, Sholapur and Kurnool.
However, due to heavy rains in Maharashtra where crops have been completely damaged, the import of goods to the district has come down considerably. Even in the southern states, rainfall has reduced the production of onion. Quintal has a maximum of Rs 4200 in the Kurnool market. Hyderabad and Maharashtra have over Rs 4000. Traders are increasing the cost with a huge demand. The state government is regulating as onion prices are growing daily. On the other hand, the demand for onion is being made by the merchants who are creating artificial scarcity.
It has been decided to deliver the load for at least ten days. At least 10–15 tonnes of onion loads are being shipped from Kurnool. It was decided to sell these by the Dwakra associations at the Raithu bazaars. The price is quoted at Rs 25 per kg upon showing the Aadhaar card or ration card.
