Government-run liquor shops became controversy in Kadapa district

Kadapa: Establishment of government-run liquor shops begins from 1st October have become controversy following they were set up at the same place where private persons run them in the earlier. Most of the liquor shops were established by private persons against norms like in front of schools, temples, and other worship places, bypass roads, national highways in the district.

For example in the earlier one liquor shop was located on Kadapa-Kurnool high way in Mydukuru Mandal, another one situated, Duvvuru- Prodaturu main road like this there are several shops were set up at the crucial traffic points, crossroads, heart of the towns, market places, residential areas etc caused to nuisance to the public.

Despite the government reduced the number of shops as part of an initiative in banning the liquor in a phased manner, but presently most of the shops run by the government located at the market places, the heart of the towns caused to face wrath from the public.

In this connection tension prevailed in Yerraguntla town with the people stated protest against government setting liquor shop in the heart of the town near the municipal office on Tuesday. Locals recalled that earlier they have conducted protest with the demand of removing liquor shop located at the same place.

"This kind of activity is against the spirit of the government ban of liquor in a phased manner. If the government is clear on its part it should set up the liquor shops outskirts of the town. Despite we have submitted written representation to the joint collector yesterday during Spandana programme but the administration least bothered over the issue" alleged a local K.Varalakshmi.
