Government taking measures for prohibition of single-use plastics: AP Minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy
The Minister of State for Power, Forests and Science, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said that by 2020, plastic will be eradicated in all municipalities. Plastic waste management program was held on Tuesday in partnership with AP Pollution Control Board and city council. Minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy and MLA Malladi Vishnu were the chief guests.
On this occasion, the Minister inspected the construction of bricks and tiles from building waste. He also started vehicles that transport plastic waste to cement companies. Speaking in the meeting, Minister said that it is good to take measures to curb the pollution. He said measures have been taken to completely ban single-use plastic and that it will be implemented in 110 municipalities. "Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has nod for the ban on plastic and said that a material recovery facility has been set up in 44 Municipalities, " Minister asserted.
Local MLA Malladi Vishnu said the dumping yard has become a problem in the Vijayawada central constituency for the past several years. He said that the yard would produce 500 tonnes of garbage every day and relieve some of the waste by sending it to cement companies. He said the last government had failed to remove the dumping yard from the site. He added that steps would be taken to move the dumping yard to Guntur and Pazhappadu areas.
VMC Commissioner Prasanna Kumar said that compost points have been set up at 7 locations in the city. UltraTech Cement has agreed to utilize 50 tonnes of plastic waste as fuel. Prasad, Chairman of Pollution Control Board, was present at the event.
