Government to implement plan to boost dryland area: Deputy CM Alla Nani
Eluru: Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani has said the government will implement a comprehensive development plan for the dry land areas in West Godavari. He received a memorandum on backwardness of dry land areas because of neglect by previous regime from YSRCP leader T Veeraswamy Naidu here on Saturday.
Naidu said there is an urgent need to take up development of the dry land because the villages lacked basic infrastructure facilities like roads and drains. Measures should be taken on a war-footing to provide facilities in hospitals and drinking water supply.
Responding to the plea, the Dy CM said that because of corruption and squabbles among TDP leaders were the reasons for the backwardness of the dry land area. Nani promised that a comprehensive plan would be evolved for overall development of the district after Assembly session.
He reminded that former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was instrumental in taking up Chintalapudi project to bring Godavari water to dry land area. He also gave emphasis to improve groundwater level, Nani recalled.
Nani alleged that during the last five years of TDP rule, Chintalapudi scheme was neglected and groundwater level depleted resulting in troubles for farming community. He assured that the state government would take steps to offer remunerative price to farmers of dry lands and take steps for setting up of industries to suit the crops in the area and thereby giving employment opportunities to the local unemployed. All government hospitals in dry land area would be equipped with modern facilities for the benefit of people of the area, he promised.
