Govt committed to supply quality power: Energy Secy
Vijayawada: The State government is committed to bring transformation in the power sector with an aim to ensure quality power supply on cost-effective basis to all consumers on a long term basis and to vigorously implement energy efficient measures which give multiple benefits, including environmental, energy and economic savings and ultimately help for sustainability of the power sector, said Energy Secretary N Srikant.
The government laid special focus on two major energy-consuming sectors- industries and domestic- for implementation of energy efficiency measures, he said.
Speaking at the gathering of two-day workshop on Energy Conservation Building Code for Residential Buildings (Eco-Niwas Samhita) being organised by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in co-ordination with Indo-Swiss BEEP and Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), Energy Department here on Thursday, Srikant said the demand for electricity is increasing day-by-day which is 183 MU as of now in the State and is expected to reach about 190 million units by September-2019.
The State government is ready to meet the highest demand and provide the required electricity to all types of consumers. At the same time, the government will definitely encourage judicious use of electricity, he said.
The Energy Secretary further said that AP has surplus energy up to 2023-24. The state can comfortably meet the energy demand and avoid energy shortages. The major challenge that AP Discoms are facing is purchase of surplus high-cost energy. In this context, the energy savings and energy efficiency efforts will help DISCOMS reduce their losses, he said. AP Transco officials K V N Chakradhar Babu, Dr. Sameer Maithel and others were present.
