Grandma, baby die after falling from lift

Nellore: In a gruesome incident, a 43-year-old woman along with her 10 day-old grandson died after falling into a shaft of the lift from the sixth floor in Parthasarathy Nagar in Nellore rural limits on Wednesday. She did not find that the lift was not on her floor and the door was opened accidentally and fell down along with her grandson.

According to sources, Madhavi, 43, grandmother of the 10 day-old baby, went to sixth floor from third floor for sunlight in the morning after bathing the baby. While she was returning to her flat she pressed the lift button. But, she did not realize that the lift was not on 6th floor and still the first door of the lift opened. Madhavi fell down on the lift from the top which was stationary in the ground floor.

Immediately, after hearing screams of Madhavi, residents of the apartment rushed to the spot and shifted her to the hospital. They also informed to rural police who rushed to the spot shifted them to a local private hospital for treatment where doctors declared them brought dead. Nellore rural Police registered a case and were investigating it. Further, the building was constructed recently and local people wonder that how door of the elevator opened when it was not on the particular floor. Madhavi has recently came to her daughter's house for taking care of the newly born.
