Nellore: Government Railway Police cracks Circar Express robbery case, recovers 67.5 lakh

Nellore: The Government Railway Police has recovered Rs 67.50 lakh robbed from a passenger travelling in Circar Express between Kavali and Nellore railway stations on December 9. They arrested four persons on Wednesday who involved in the robbery. The interesting part of the incident is one among the accused is a Head Constable in Government Railway Police.

Addressing media on Wednesday, Nellore Railway DSP G Vasanthakumar said the victim Gudipati Subba Reddy of Kallamvaripalem in Prakasam district has been doing gold business and boarded the Circar Express at Ongole station on December 9 for buying gold in Chennai.

Gunji Anjaneyulu, working as the head constable in the GRP and driver to the railway DSP, entered the compartment at Kavali along with a porter in Nellore railway station Bochhu Chinna Rao, Shaik Saleem and Shaik Khajaramtullah and started checking bags of passengers posing as police personnel.

Meanwhile, they have managed to take the bag of Subba Reddy containing cash of Rs 67.50 lakh and shared the money after alighting the train at Nellore station. Government Railway Police conducted raid quickly after Subba Reddy lodged a complaint with them and caught hold of the accused at Dontali and recovered the money.
