42 wagons of red chilli, turmeric, ginger sent to Bangladesh

Guntur: Two rakes consisting of 42 wagons with 4,928 tonnes of red chilli, turmeric and ginger have been loaded and dispatched from Reddypalem Railway Station near here to Benapole Railway Station in Bangladesh on May 26 and 27.

According to official sources, it will take at least three days to reach Benapole Railway Station. So far, the farmers and the merchants used to transport red chilli to Bangladesh, was stopped due to the lockdown.

Now, the Railways have come to their rescue and arranged wagons for transportation which is also very cost-effective.

The average cost of transportation by the Railways works out to just Rs 2,600 per tonne. Freight customers around Guntur have been showing interest to further increase their transportation by the Railways.

South Central Railway General Manager Gajanan Mallya in a statement said that transportation of products by train was not only economically beneficial to consignors but also helps in smooth supply of these essential commodities to the neighbouring country in the safe and the fastest manner.
