Guntur: CPI demands all-party meet to pressurise Centre to release funds
Guntur: CPI state secretary K Rama Krishna expressed serious concern over the reports on alleged reduction in the height of Polavaram Project. Addressing media here on Tuesday, he said that the Central government betrayed the state by not extending Rs 55,548 crore as assured by it for the construction of the Polavaram Project and now saying that it will release Rs 20,000 crore.
The Centre was doing injustice to the state by not giving Special Category Status to the state and not allotting funds for the construction of Kadapah Steel Plant, ports and various educational institutions.
He blamed the state government for detaining the CPI leaders at their houses to prevent them from visiting the Polavaram Project. He demanded that the state government conduct an all-party meeting and mount pressure on the Centre to fulfil the promises made at the time of bifurcation of the state.
