Andhra Pradesh to set up 18 Disha police stations soon: Mekathoti Sucharita
Guntur: Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita said that the government will set up 18 Disha Police Stations in the State very soon and recalled that the government has already released Disha App to provide security to women in danger.
She inaugurated Disha Police Station set up in Narasaraopet in Guntur district on Sunday.
Speaking on this occasion, she said though Disha Act did not come into force, the government was taking action against the accused in the rape cases under the Disha Act.
Over one lakh women downloaded the Disha App in their cell phones. The aim of the government was to take stern action against the accused in rape cases without delay.
She said large number of atrocities against women were reported in West Godavari district followed by Guntur. Sucharitha pointed out that the State government had appointed 11,500 women volunteers at village secretariats.
The Home Minister criticised former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for trying to gain political mileage by blaming the police department.
Deputy speaker Kona Raghupati said that Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took initiative to implement Disha Act to take prompt and stern action against the accused who commit atrocities against women.
Guntur Range IGP Vineet Brijlal, District Collector, I Samuel Anand Kumar, MLAs Vidadala Rajini, MLA. Dr Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy and Guntur rural SP Ch Vijaya Rao were among those who participated.
