Guntur: The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) is contemplating to change examination pattern for the Intermediate students from the academic year 2020-21. The pattern will most likely be similar to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Sources said the number of questions will be increased and marks for questions to be reduced. The government which has taken a decision to that effect has already informed the BIE officials.

According to sources in the BIE, the questions will be prepared from all the chapters in the textbooks. In order to answer the questions in the examinations, the student have to study all the lessons. The BIE is of the opinion that this system will help the students to take JEE, NEET, EAMCET and other competitive exams efficiently. On its part, the board will also get subject experts prepare material answers for all the questions and upload the same on the website. Interested students may study the lessons on the website.

Further, the BIE is also bringing coaching for competitive exams under its ambit by making it mandatory for junior colleges to obtain separate permission from it to impart coaching for these exams. So far, the private colleges are giving coaching as part of the Intermediate course.

According to sources, the BIE will conduct online admissions into the colleges and implement the reservations in the admissions. Moreover, the BIE is also contemplating to change timings of the junior colleges. As per the new model, the junior colleges will start at 8.30 am and work till 3.30 pm. One hour will be allotted for sports. Group discussions and seminars will be conducted in the colleges for one or two days in a week.

It may be recalled that the government has already restricted the strength of the students in the junior Intermediate section to 40 from 2020-21 academic year and issued orders to this effect.

Meanwhile, the government is toying with the idea to close colleges where the student strength is less than 20 and transfer the lectures working in those college to other colleges.
