Guntur: Kanna asks Jagan not to annul Kapu quota
Guntur: BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana demanded Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to continue 5 per cent reservations to Kapus under Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category and take necessary steps immediately for their implementation.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Lakshminarayana reminded that the TDP government had given 5 per cent reservations to Kapus out of 10 per cent reservations given by the Centre to the poor people in upper castes. Stating that it was not correct on the part of Jagan Mohan Reddy to oppose the reservations to Kapus, he said he had already written a letter to him on the issue.
Accusing the TDP government of assuring reservations for Kapus and cheating them, he said it was the Narendra Modi government which had provided reservations for the poor among upper castes taking agitations in some states into consideration.
He said the previous government issued a GO to implement the reservations for Kapus based on the recommendations of Manjunath Commission report and added that it was not proper for Jagan to oppose it. He asked the Chief Minister to reconsider this decision on Kapu reservations immediately.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Muslim women for passage of Triple Talaq Bill in Parliament. He said the law provides for three years imprisonment for husbands who divorce their wives by simply saying talaq three times.
