Guntur: Markfed purchases 9,000 quintals of turmeric

Guntur: AP Markfed counter set up at Agriculture Market Yard in Sattenapalli so far purchased 9,000 quintals from the farmers at Rs 6,850 per quintal in the backdrop of falling prices of turmeric due to reduction of demand. Farmers who sold turmeric to AP Markfed did not get payment so far.

They are expected to get payment during the July first week. Based on the quality certification given by the officials, the Markfed is purchasing the turmeric. Depending upon the quality, the traders purchasing turmeric at Rs 4000 to Rs 5,000 per quintal in the open market.

AMC Sattenpalli chairman I Venkateswara Reddy said Markfed centre at AMC Sattenapalli is useful to the farmers. The farmers who sell turmeric at Markfed centre will get Rs 6,850 per quintal, he said.
