Guntur: Need to encourage eye donation stressed

Guntur: Chief Executive Director of the Eye Bank Association of India Dr Ganesh said that over 1.1 million people in the country, a majority of them young adults have realised the value of sight because they do not have it.

He said that it is possible to restore their eye sight if they lost eye sight due to opaque cornea that can be restored by replacing it with a clear cornea. He inaugurated Dr Agarwal's Eye Collection Center at its hospital in Guntur city on Monday. He said that the eye banks are striving hard to bridge the gap between availability and requirement of cornea.

Senior manager Dr.Agarwal's Eye Bank Rajiv Manav said that so far they transplanted over 50,000 corneas.
