Guntur: Six killed, 2 hurt as mini-van crashes into auto-rickshaw

Guntur: Six persons were killed and two others were injured when a mini lorry collided with an auto-rickshaw near Repudi Engineering College in Phirangipuram mandal of Guntur district on Monday.

According to police, the mini lorry carrying building material from Narasaraopet collided with an auto-rickshaw coming in the opposite direction and overturned on the road side.

The deceased were identified as Kakani Ramadevi (30), her daughter Kakani Yasaswini (1), Chirumamilla Mariyamma (40), S Ashok Kumar (40) and Yuvaraj (23) who died on spot. They were all travelling in the auto-rickshaw.

Ramadevi's son K Manikanta (4) died while being shifted to GGH in Guntur city. Two others who sustained injuries are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Ramadevi hailed from from Puttakota village in Phirangipuram mandal of Guntur district. They were returning from a temple at Kodamaguntla village in Karempudi mandal.

Ashok Kumar was working in the Central Power Distribution Company Ltd of AP. Except Ashok Kumar, others victims were agriculture workers.

Police suspect that due to rain the tyres of the mini-van slipped which led to the road accident.

Narasaraopet DSP M Veera Reddy said, "Rash driving of mini van driver led to the accident." The driver is absconding.
