Guru Nanak Jayanthi: Sikhs take out rally

Vijayawada: To mark the 550th Gurunanak Devji's birth anniversary on November 12, various programmes were organised by the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha here on Sunday. The youth performed Gatka which attracted the onlookers.

The Nagara Sankirtana started from Sahini Complex, Autonagar at 7 am and passed through various places and reached Gurudwara at 10. Women recited keertanas and the youth demonstrated Kirpans along with Sikhs' traditional songs to show their love and affection towards Gurunanak.

The organising committee member Tasmith Singh Gujral said as per Gurunanakji, all religions are the same and should spread love towards one another. She said that as part of the week long celebrations of 550th Gurunanak Devji's birth anniversary on November 12, special puja will be held at one-town Gurudwara on Monday and special pujas and bhajans will be organised from 9 am to 1 pm on Tuesday.

On the same day at 6 pm, birth anniversary celebrations of Gurunanak will be held at Sindhu Bhavan, Brundhavan colony, she said. Food will be distributed at various places in the city on the occasion by about 1000 Sikh and Sindhi community people, the organisers said.Committee members Gurudeep Singh Sahani, Harmithsingh Gujral, Karam Kour, Veerpreeth Singh and others took part in the celebrations.
