Harmony committees thoughtless act, says TDP member Varla Ramaiah

Amaravati : TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah on Friday slammed YSRCP government for its 'diversionary tactics' of appointing the religious harmony committees without taking the required action against the culprits in the ongoing attacks on temples.

Ramaiah termed the harmony committees at all levels as yet another thoughtless act of the ruling party. All this was just to cover up the failures of the government and the police. Without further creating confusion, all necessary efforts should be made to arrest the guilty persons and bring them to the book.

In a statement here, the TDP leader deplored that over 140 temples had come under attack in the past one-and-a-half years. Whereas, the government was talking about forming the committees with representatives of different religions, it was not able to give details of what efforts were made to nab the offenders responsible for the vandalism and desecration of the idols at the temples.

Ramaiah objected to the government's statement that one representative each would be appointed on the committees across the State. It was meaningless because such a concept would not work uniformly all over.

There would be sub-groups even within each religion. Could the government be able to choose whether to appoint Vaishnavas or Shaivites on the committees?

Stating that immediate priority should be given to punishing the culprits, Ramaiah said that the government and the police were not making a single effort. They were solely busy trying to deflect the public attention from the ongoing attacks on the temples rather than catching the guilty.
