Heavy rains forecast for the Telugu States in next 48 hours

Heavy rains have been forecast for Telugu Desert, weather department officials said. With the influence of low pressure, AP and Telangana to receive heavy rains with 45-50 km storms and winds.

The weather department has said that the low pressure in the southwestern Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a cyclone in the next 48 hours and head towards the coastal areas. As a result, rains likely to hit coastal Andhra and Rayalseema. The Disaster Management Department alerted the authorities in Guntur, Krishna, Godawari districts, Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram and Srikakulam districts.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu received heavy rains. Heavy rains have been reported in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore. Heavy rains are expected in the next three days, the Meteorological Department said.

The government has announced a red alert in the Bhawanisagar Dam basin. The government has declared holidays for schools in Nilgiris, Salem, Namakkal, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram districts.
