Heavy rains lash Anantapur

Anantapur: Heavy Rains lashed the city on the night of Saturday disrupting normal life especially those living in low lying areas of Old town and parts of Guljarpet, Somnathnagar, Housing board, Lenin nagar and slums.

In Somnathnagar, drains overflowed and entered into residential areas. In the early hours of Sunday, municipal commissioner Prashanthi instructed engineers to flush water out of homes and widen drains to divert flood waters.

The main cause of water flooding the living quarters was encroachments on the Nadivanka canal which proved to be a bane. However the showers were welcome showers throughout the district. Rains also subjected people to intense suffering in Thapnagar, Allurisitharamnagar.

At Narayanapuram Panchayat secretary did not respond to people's distress calls when their homes were inundated by rain waters. Residents of 5th road also had a hard time as rain waters entered their houses.
