Heavy rains lash Srikakulam

Srikakulam: Heavy rains lashed several parts of Srikakulam on Wednesday. Due to low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall reported from early hours of Wednesday. As a result of heavy downpour, normal life affected across the district including construction works.

Heavy downpour reported at Palasa, Tekkali, Narasannapeta, Srikakulam, Ranastalam, Rajam, Palakonda, Kalingapatnam, Sompeta, Baruva and other areas. In Srikakulam city, due to poor drainage system, all roads were inundated with rainwater and many low-lying areas including ASPRTC Complex, K R Stadium, MH School Grounds and Mahalaxmi Nagar were waterlogged.

In the wake of continuous rains, Collector J Nivas directed the medical and health department officials to initiate preventive measure to stop spreading of rain related diseases. He also directed the engineers of irrigation department to be alert and take steps to prevent breach of canals of all projects to prevent inundation of paddy and other kharif crops.
