Heavy rains wreak havoc in North Coastal Andhra, hits normal life
The low pressure of the Bay of Bengal has caused widespread rains in coastal Andhra. Heavy rains have hit Northern Andhra as the low-pressure gaseous atmosphere in the southwestern Bay of Bengal has turned into a gale. The rains in Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram and Vishakha are overflowing. Srikakulam has recorded average rainfall of 12.7 cm The highest rainfall of 22.4 cm recorded in Mandasa.
The electricity supply has come to a standstill. The rivers Nagavali and Bahuda are overflowing. A total of 30,600 cusecs of water is being pumped into Nagavali from seven gates. Gotabarage has lifted 22 gates and released 68,000 cusecs into the sea. Thottapalli Barrage lifts four gates and sends 8,000 cusecs into Nagavali. A total of 44,342 cusecs of water were dumped from Odisha on Thursday evening in Ichchapuram.
The Champawati River flows from the Causeway at Nellimars. The initial estimate was that the damage to crops was over 15 thousand acres. The interstate bridge over the Suvarnamukhi River in the Sitanagaram Zone has collapsed. Police stopped the traffic on the bridge.
