Nellore: Former Minister and senior TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy stated that the YSR Congress-led government had levied an additional burden of Rs. 120 crore in the name of electricity bills to the district population to mark completion of a one-year rule. He extended solidarity to the former Mayor Abdul Aziz who had staged relay hunger protest on Sunday. Somireddy said that each household has been levied a burden of Rs. 1,500 per month in the form of power bills.

"People have been suffering from severe financial crisis due to the lockdown and now this move is an additional burden on them. We requested the government to waive off power bills for three months. Otherwise, they can collect the bill amount of February for the remaining months. In addition to hiked power bills, the prices of essential commodities have also been increased giving hardships to people,'' Somireddy said.

He said the government can enhance prices of liquor on the costly brands. But, he said, it is inhuman to collect double prices from the poor on cheap varieties.

Somireddy alleged that all the leaders of ruling party have ignored to address the problems of migrant labourers. The ruling party leaders collected donations in the name of the corona, conducted rallies violating lockdown, and printed photos of ruling party leaders on the bags used for the distribution of essentials, the former Minister said.
