Houses of Telugu legendaries to be made as Smriti Vanams: Yarlagadda
Amaravati: While taking charge as the chairman of AP Official Language Commission, Dr Yarlagadda Lakshmiprasad stated that he will make the houses of luminary personalities, particularly literary legendaries in the state as "Smriti Vanams" (memorial constructions) and publicise them.
He took the charge on Monday at Secretariat in the presence of Ministers including Botcha Satyanarayana (Municipal and Urban Development), Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao (Sports and Culture), Perni Venkata Ramaiah (Transport), Kodali Srivenkateswara Rao (Civil supplies) and others.
While speaking on the occasion, he explained that he has set an agenda of four points. Implementation of Telugu as administrative Language in all government offices. Reclamation of Telugu University, which lost its glory in AP after bifurcation. Making Telugu a must subject in all schools in the state and making the houses of luminary personalities, particularly literary legendaries in the state as "Smriti Vanams".
Yarlagadda further said that August 29, the birth anniversary of Gidugu Ramamurti, will be celebrated as Telugu Language Day and a special program will be held on that day at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada.
He thanked CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy for giving him the opportunity. He recalled that Telugu got the status of the classical language during YS Rajasekhar Reddy's regime. He slammed previous TDP government that the Official Language Commission was set aside during the then N Chandrababu Naidu's regime. The TDP Government did not focus on resolving the issue of Telugu University becoming defunct after bifurcation.
