ICMR selects KGH Visakhapatnam to conduct clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccine
It is known fact that India's Bharat Biotech company has developed a new vaccine for treating coronavirus pandemic, which has passed the first stage of the vaccine development. Meanwhile, India's Medical Research Council (ICMR) is expected to release the vaccine to the market by August 15, if they succeed in clinical trials on humans. As part of these initiatives, two centers in Telugu states and 12 centers across the country have been selected for clinical trials.
ICMR has selected King George Hospital (KGH) at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. KGH has announced the appointment of Dr. Vasudev as the nodal officer for the vaccine's clinical trials. He is already working on services for Coronavirus patients at VIMS.
And when it comes to Telangana, the ICMR has given permission to conduct clinical trials at NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. Dr Prabhakar Reddy has been appointed as the nodal officer for the examination. It remains to be seen whether the Bharat Biotech company succeed in trials and give the country a vaccine.
Meanwhile, as per the latest media health bulletin released by the state government, 837 new Coronavirus cases reported in the last twenty-four hours in Andhra Pradesh taking the tally to 16,934 on Friday among the 38,898 samples tested. The cases include 789 local cases, 46 migrants, and two foreigners.
