Implement Doctors Protection Act: Indian Medical Association
Vijayawada: The members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Vijayawada chapter on Friday strongly condemned the attack on two doctors at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College in Kolkata recently. In this connection the members of IMA observed a Protest Day.
Addressing the media, Dr TV Ramana Murthy, president of IMA Vijayawada said, "Doctors are not gods. However, we give the best to save every patient who come for treatment. Doctor profession is a tense profession and under these attacks, it is very difficult to treat the patients."
He demanded that the government take action on persons who attacked the doctors, medical staff and damaged the hospital property creating panic. He said that awareness should be created among the patient relatives about the law for attacks on doctors.
People who attack the doctors or damage the hospital property should be arrested immediately and this information should be spread among the people through various media to make people think twice before attacking. Stern action should be taken against the people indulging in such activities, said Dr Murthy.
Ch Manoj Kumar, honorary secretary, IMA Vijayawada recalled that in 2008 when YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister of AP, an Act for protection of doctors was framed, which was not implemented properly.
The IMA members requested Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to see these Acts are properly implemented and see that the doctor's work in a safe and stress free environment and serve the patients. Dr Samaram, Dr Gangadhar Rao, Dr Sri Hari Rao, Dr Phanindra and other leaders and members of IMA were present on the occasion.
