Visakhapatnam: Incessant rains in the city throw normal life out of gear in the past few days. With a low-pressure persisting over the northwest coastal area and the neighbouring north-Odisha-West Bengal region, the weatherman said the downpour would last for another couple of days.

Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over coastal AP and Yanam on Friday, according to the IMD. Strong surface winds from a westerly direction with speed reaching 50 to 55 km/hour are likely along and off coastal AP during the next 24 hours, commencing from Thursday evening.

The state of sea would be rough. The Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam, has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea along and off coastal AP for the next 45 hours.

The amount of rainfall (in cm) recorded during the last 24 hours, include: Vepada-5, Tadepalligudem-5, Visakhapatnam-3.5, Koida-3, Chintur-3, Ranastalam – 3, Bheemunipatnam – 3 and Srungavarapukota – 3.

When contacted, the officials of the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) said that with the associated cyclone circulation extending up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level, moving towards south westwards.

The CWC officials said it is most likely to tilt towards the southwest. A few places near Coastal AP will have rainfall for 24 hours. However, strongwinds will reach up to 45 to 50 kmph up and above the sea level. Moreover, Coastal AP sea condition will be rough to very rough.
